Asif Nazrul criticises Indian govt’s security lapse

Law Adviser Asif Nazrul criticised the Indian government for its failure to ensure the security of the Bangladeshi mission in Agartala, Tripura.
He expressed his disapproval through a statement shared on his Facebook post last night.
Asif pointed out that the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission in Agartala was vandalised, and the national flag of Bangladesh was set on fire. He alleged that members of an organisation named Hindu Sangharsh Samiti were responsible for this disgraceful act.

Raising a rhetorical question, he said, “If a similar incident had occurred in Bangladesh under the name of a ‘Muslim Sangharsh Samiti,’ how aggressively would India have reacted?”
According to international law, the Indian government is obligated to provide complete security to Bangladesh’s diplomatic missions on its soil.
The adviser condemned India’s failure to do so, emphasising that it was unacceptable.
He also criticised the remarks made by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, adding that India, instead of blaming others, should reflect on incidents of oppression against minorities and Dalits within its own borders.
“India (and Mamata) should feel ashamed of what happens to their minorities instead,” he said.
Addressing India, Asif said, “We believe in a friendship based on equality and mutual respect. While Sheikh Hasina’s government followed a pro-India policy to cling to power without elections, India must realise that this is not Sheikh Hasina’s Bangladesh.”
He emphasised that Bangladesh is an independent, sovereign, and self-respecting nation driven by a fearless and dynamic young generation.
