    Description

    Fabulous large bronze Irish Setter dog ink blotter signed F. Gornik. Friedrich Gornik (1877-1943) was one of the prominent Animaliers, producing fine animal bronzes and sculptures during his career. Gornik studied at the Vienna School of Arts and Crafts and became quite successful during his lifetime. This is quite an unusual piece due to the fact that the bronze has been mounted onto a desk ink blotter. The piece is large and heavy, measuring just over 5 1/2" tall by 6 1/2" long by 3 1/4" side overall. The Setter dog measures 3 1/2" high by 5 3/4" long. The bronze is signed (see photo) with a foundry mark, AR in a square. The dog is beautifully depicted in a relaxed sitting pose with head extended. From my personal dog collection, this is truly a quality piece and worthy of a fine collection.
